fabric quilted Valentine's Day

Bloom Sew Along Mini Valentine’s Day Quilt

I have been loving the sewing going on over at the Riley Blake Design’s blog and Lori Holt’s blog as they host a sew along using Lori’s new fabric Calico Days and her Sew Simple Shapes.  I was invited to participate in sewing a block and I decided on week three’s darling flowers.

I used fabrics from Doodlebug’s Lovebugs collection and I just love them.  I didn’t want to make just a block, so I decided to turn it into a mini quilt for Valentine’s Day.

I followed the directions for the center of the block, but instead of doing a 2 1/2″ border, I widened it to 3 1/2″ to allow for adding the hearts to the corners.  I used the heart template found in the Sew Simple Shapes.

It was fun to break out my applique skills, they are pretty rusty. 🙂  If you don’t have time to make a whole quilt, or if you want to try some new skills- pull out some scrappy fabrics and have a go at one of the blocks in this fun quilt, I think you’ll be glad you did.
xoxo,
Amy
