Renewal

Here I sit on a Monday morning.  The list of things I could do is a mile long.  Instead I am choosing to sit here and write.  Because, well, I miss this little spot of mine.  This weekend I received a copy of Where Women Create magazine in the mail.  It’s a gorgeous magazine full of beautiful pictures and amazing photography and inspiring women.  Women who have pushed their boundaries, reached for their dreams and achieved incredible things.  Women I…

It’s Summer {a mom-day post}

Ahh, summer.  How I love you.    And hate you.        All at the same time. I have been very quiet on the internet of late.  Not that I haven’t been wasting inordinate amounts of time on the internet.  I just haven’t been adding anything to the fray. I feel like I should have amazing adventures or elaborate explanations of what I have been up to to justify my lack of posting, updating and sharing. The truth is, I have done…

A bit of my Heart

You can find the tutorial for this heart ruffle pillow here. Today I just wanted to share a bit of my heart with you.  It has to do with being a woman and what I think of it. As women we are so good at comparing and putting ourselves down.  It is easy to put up barriers based on our perceived differences, to protect ourselves.  We judge first to avoid being judged. But when we do, we miss out on…

Chasing Rainbows

You may have seen this embroidery project I posted last week.  I just love all the colors and how happy it makes me.  But, it does more than just add color to my creative space.  I wanted it to serve as a reminder to me of what is really important to me. Motherhood is definitely thankless, difficult, challenging, gross, exhausting, did I say thankless?  It absorbs all of who you are and what you do.  You feel like you are…

At the Core of Me

Last September I had the opportunity to attend a creative retreat called Find Your Lula.  It was an inspiring week full of so much learning and fun I hated to see it end.  One of the things we did at the retreat was an exercise guided by Lyn Christian of Soul Salt Inc. designed to help us get to the heart of what really matters to us.  Through a series of eliminations, we came up with the three words that…

On the Road to Recovery

Hi!  I’m Amy and I’m a recovering enabler, nagger and yeller.  I’ve been in recovery for about a week.  I’m definitely a work in progress, and I still have a long way to go, but I’ve seen indications that this is the right way for me to go. This morning was a perfect example.   I have decided that if I want my children to be self motivated, I need to give them the opportunity to learn how to be that…

Why I’m quitting my day job…

I’m not even sure I’m going to give them 2 weeks notice. Before you start panicking that I’m leaving my family, let me reassure you that I have no intention of doing that. The job I plan to quit is the job of Chief Enabling Officer.  The job mostly involves nagging, yelling, cajoling, reminding, hurrying, watching, checking, reminding, nagging, and repeat. It’s a lousy job and the pay is terrible.  Benefits include (but are not limited to): dependent, lazy, entitled,…

Goals are more than dreams and wishes….

I love the new year.  The possibilities, the growth it will hold.  I can’t help but view it as Anne of Green Gables when she said, “Tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it.”  There is a whole year full of unmarked days, ready to be filled and lived and remembered. It’s a very romantic view to be sure. But I can’t help getting caught up in the chance to start fresh.  So many things in my life…

5 simple ways to be Happier

*disclaimer* I was given a Clicker Kit from Hilary Weeks to try.  All opinions and stories are my own.  Also, purchasing the clicker start up kit through the link will result in a small monetary affiliate payment for me.  That being said, I really hope you’ll read this post, it’s worth it. 🙂 Back in September I had the opportunity to attend a retreat hosted by Amanda Herring of The Quilted Fish.  As part of our preparation, the photography instructor…

Everything I Never Knew I Didn’t Know about Motherhood

You know the book, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten?  (I love Robert Fulghum by the way.  I have read a few of his books and they always make me laugh and think, which is a combination I greatly enjoy.)  Well, I have learned a few things myself.   I’ll call it- Everything I Never Knew I Didn’t Know About Motherhood. You’ll be exhausted forever.  To varying degrees.  But, unless you can afford a long vacation- sleep…
